Jakarta. President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo officially sent humanitarian aid for Rohingya in Myanmar's Rakhine State from Tanjung Priok Port in North Jakarta on Thursday (29/12).
"We have dispatched 10 containers to help our brothers, especially the Rohingya Muslim community, in Rakhine State. They contain instant noodles, baby food, wheat, cereals, and sarungs. These items were requested," Jokowi said.
Jokowi, who was accompanied by Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi and State Secretary Pratikno, highlighted the importance of diplomacy in solving humanitarian crises.
"Indonesia's diplomacy has achieved the task without unnecessary uproar. Our compassion and care have been conveyed," Jokowi said.
On Dec. 6, Retno met with Myanmar's Aung San Suu Kyi to express concerns over violence against Rohingya Muslims in Rakhine State and requested that humanitarian aid from Indonesia be accepted.
After Retno's visit to Myanmar, on Dec. 8 Jokowi met with former United Nations secretary general Kofi Annan, who leads the Advisory Commission on Rakhine State, to discuss next steps in resolving the crisis.
“I hope Indonesian aid and compassion will be received, and I hope soon we will see peace and stability," the president said.
